I checked out some of the usual Ugly places in Mobile and there has been no change. We have the technology to put remote control Rovers on Mars, Man on the Moon, and to take photos from Space with so much detail it is unbelievable, but we don't have the sense to use any of that technology to put 24 hour video cameras in a few choice locations to capture video evidence of who is trashing Mobile. There are no painful punishments to deter breaking laws. So, society will continue to do whatever they want because there is no room left in the prisons. The trash found in Perch Creek is not related to dense urban population or huge shopping centers. The trash in Perch Creek is related to the poorly maintained the roadside of Dauphin Island Parkway, the poorly maintained McNally Park, and the small Driftwood neighborhood slum. When I say poorly maintained, that means roadside litter is rarely removed by the agencies responsible for mowing and maintaining the ditches and roadsides. Besides that, the trash currently polluting Prech Creek can also be directly attributed to the asinine watershed management policy of the federal government, the state of Alabama, Mobile County, the city of Mobile and local environmental groups. Their combined watershed management policy does not include removing trash from any of Mobile's trash impaired canals, creeks, rivers and wetlands. How dumb is that? |
